Al-Ameen College, Edathala, Aluva

With the noblest aim of providing quality education to the students in and around Edathala, a small yet vibrant hamlet in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, the Al_Ameen Educational Trust under the visionary leadership of its founder Dr.Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Bangalore established the Al-ameen College at Edathala in the year 1981. The college was fisrt affiliated to the University of Kerala. Later in 1983, when Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam was founded, the College came under its jurisdiction. The Al-Ameen Trust is a charitable trust registered under the Indian Trust’s Act with a clear view to promote education with eminence based on personally development,character formation and communal harmony.It lays stress on the imparting of education with a frim moral base. The main objective of the Trust is to develop a strong sense of social obligation among

its students.The empowering of the students from minorityThe Al-Ameen College is one among the various centres of educational excellence envisioned by the selfless and sincere members of the Al-Ameen Educational Trust. The year 1991 was a landmark in the history of the College. It was during this year that the College got elevated to the status of a first grade with the introduction of B.Com Degree Course. Since then the institution has acquired reputation as a celebrated first grade college with multiple graduate and post-graduate courses catering to the needs of students to achieve vocational proficiency. The College offers undergraduate degrees in Science, Arts, Commerce and New Generation streams, and postgraduate degrees in Commerce, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. The college has strength of around 1500 students. In 2015 the College got accredited first cycle by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In 2020 the College got re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade (CGPA 3.15).

About RUSA Project

RUSA is a holistic scheme of development for Higher Education in India initiated in 2013 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The central funding would be norm based and outcome dependent. The funding would flow from the central ministry through the state governments/union territories to the State Higher Education Councils before reaching the identified institutions. The funding to states would be made on the basis of critical appraisal of State Higher Education Plans, which would describe each state’s strategy to address issues of equity, access and excellence in higher education. Al-Ameen College, Edathala, located in Edathala Gramapanchayath, Aluva, Kerala, founded in 1981 is one of the prime institutions run by the Al-Ameen Educational Trust, Kochi. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, and it offers courses in Arts, Science and Commerce. The institution practices the noble mission and vision of providing quality education based on personality development, character formation and communal harmony as envisaged by its founders. The Institution supports new changes in programmes and activities to enable students to fit themselves into a tremendously changing society and mould them to face multitudes of challenges in their personal and professional lives. The college is located 8 Kms from Aluva town. RUSA has sanctioned the fund of 2 crores to college, for three components, Construction of Ladies Hostel, Renovation and Purchase. The new ladies hostel has been developed as a single storey building having 6 rooms to accommodate 3 students in each room. One room for warden, waiting area, open passes etc. also provided. The Habitat Technology Group proposed a design for the building and the team has prepared an estimate for the construction and renovation of the existing building. The renovation work includes the upgradation of chemistry lab, changing of asbestos sheet of the college roof, Auditorium renovation etc. The purchase includes Solar System, Generator, and Physics & Chemistry Lab Equipments.
