College of Engineering Trivandrum

College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET), established in 1939 by Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the erstwhile king of Travancore, is one of the oldest technical institutes in India. From a modest beginning of around 80 students in three different branches, CET has grown into a technical institute of excellence, with eight full-fledged departments offering nine undergraduate and 31 postgraduate courses. College is offering B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, M.Plan, MCA and MBA courses. Spread over a sprawling 80 acre campus, CET currently hosts more than 5000 students, 300 faculty and 200 research scholars. Since its inception, the college has maintained its eminence as a leading engineering college in India, and it ranks among the top in the country in terms of the quality of its graduates and the number of top jobs held by its alumni. The college continues to strive for excellence in education and research, and it remains the most sought-after government engineering college in the state.

About RUSA Project

An amount of Rs. two crores was allotted to the College of Engineering, Trivandrum under RUSA Phase I. This included Rs. 70 lakhs each for construction and renovation, and Rs. 60 lakhs for purchases.

By utilizing the funds allocated for the renovation fund, the ECE Seminar Hall, Central Computing Facility, Library block, College Courtyard, JC Alexander Hall, and Staff Club office were renovated. The total expenditure for renovation was Rs. 63.5 lakhs.

The funds allocated for the purchase were utilized for purchasing furniture and desktop PCs for various labs. Additionally, a total station, RFID hardware for ID card printing, graphic cards for upgrading existing desktop PCs in labs, TFT monitors, PCB prototyping antenna, and other items were purchased. The total expenditure for these purchases was Rs. 56.5 lakhs.

The funds allocated for the construction fund were utilized for constructing the Students’ Centre Phase I (Canteen Block). The ground floor of the Students’ Centre currently houses the main canteen of the college. An amenity area for students and a convention center meeting international standards are planned for the first and second floors, respectively. Various offices and areas for the functioning of various students’ clubs of CET are planned for the third and fourth floors. The total construction cost of the Students’ Centre Phase I (Canteen Block) was Rs. 110 lakhs, out of which Rs. 80 lakhs was allocated from the RUSA fund.
