Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) is a leading academic organisation in the public sector that strives to address the higher educational needs of Central Kerala. The University has been accredited with 'A' grade by the NAAC with a score of 3.24 points. As a gradation by the NAAC is meant for five years the next evaluation is due in 2022 and we expect to improve our position with some vital initiatives in all key sectors of activities including academic, administrative, extension and infrastructure development. The University was founded on 2nd October, 1983 and the revenue districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and parts of Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha come under its areas of activities. The main campus is situated on the Priyadarshini Hills, on a vast area of 110 acres, in Athirampuzha Panchayath, 11 Kms from the Kottayam town. The University also has two other campuses in Kottayam, housing two statutory departments. The University has 25 schools, one International and Interuniversity Centre, seven Interuniversity Centres, 10 Interschool Centres, 264 affiliated colleges and 10 autonomous colleges.

About RUSA Project

Mahatma Gandhi University has been granted Rs. 50 Cr. grant under RUSA – Phase II scheme of Component 10: Research, Innovation and Quality Improvement. Rs. 7.5 Cr. has been released as three installments with the proportion of 60% share from Central Government and 40% share from State Government. About RUSA 2.0 funding to Mahatma Gandhi University under Component 10- Research, Innovation and Quality Improvement The MHRD has selected top State Universities in the country to promote quality enhancement in Teaching and Research under its RUSA 2.0 scheme. Mahatma Gandhi University is the one among the two universities in Kerala qualified for this status. Recognizing this, MHRD has sanctioned Rs. 50 Cr under Component 10- Research, Innovation and Quality Improvement with the following two subdivisions. 1. Funding of Rs. 15 Crores for establishment of Entrepreneurship, Employability and Career Hub. 2. Funding of Rs. 35 Crores through Faculty level Major Research Projects in various core domains. The First installment of Rs.11.25 crore for establishing Entrepreneurship, employability and Career Hub has been released to Mahatma Gandhi University with the sharing pattern of 60: 40 between the MHRD, New Delhi and Government of Kerala. 5 With this special support under RUSA phase 2.0 scheme, Mahatma Gandhi University is taking strenuous efforts in improving Quality enhancement of teaching and research, procuring advanced laboratory equipment, implementing MHRD and e-Governance initiatives and Skill Development, support for Innovation and Incubation along with Career guidance through Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub.
