Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College (NAAC re-accredited with A Grade), affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, named after the great seer and philosopher Jagad Guru Adi Sankara was established in 1967. The College is managed by the Sree Sankara Trust, formed in 1965, for promoting higher education in accordance with the ideals propagated by the great saint Sree Sankaracharya. Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College, founded five decades ago and named after Sree Sankaracharya, the great visionary, is situated in Airapuram, a remote and serene village about 30 kilo metres from the sprawling city of Cochin. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and is included under sections 2(f) and 12B of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The college was graded “A’’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) after the second cycle of the accreditation of the college in 2016. At present, the college offers eleven undergraduate and five post graduate programmes. Around 100 staffs are working in the college. In addition, the college serves as a center of ASAP. The college offers Add- On courses on Actuarial Science, Information Technology and E-marketing. The college preserves and enriches our cultural heritage through endeavors such as Heritage Museum, Folklore Museum, Sree Sankara Cultural Study Centre and Manuscript Library. Majority of the students of the college are from socio-economic backward sections of the society. They are mostly first-generation learners. The total student strength at present is about (900) 895.
