Sir Syed College, Taliparamba

Syed College is a Gov-aided college, founded in the year 1967. College was established by the Cannanore District Muslim Educational Association (CDMEA), mainly to impart moral and liberal education to the educationally backward Muslims of North Malabar region. The College is situated 23 km North East of Kannur town and is affiliated to Kannur University. The college was graded A by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) after the third cycle of the reaccreditation of the college in 2017. Besides that, the college is recognized by FIST-0 level Grant of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in 2014. At present, the college offers thirteen Undergraduate and five post graduate programmes. Departments of Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Commerce and Arabic have PG programmes. The post graduate department of Botany and Chemistry are approved research centres. There are 71 teaching staffs and 35 non-teaching staffs working in the college. The college has district level medicinal plant demonstration garden.

The college has been constructing an indoor stadium funded by UGC and a separate unique launch would be reserved for the Yoga programmes. The college also has well equipped computational chemistry laboratory, and unique lab of its kind in Kannur district. Fully furnished Biotechnology lab with GC-MS and FTIR are distinctive in its kind in the Kannur University. The student community of the college is a cross section of the society. Majority of the students of the college are from socially and economically backward sections of the society. The total student strength at present is 1629. Majority of the students of the college belong to SC, ST, OBCs, minorities and other weaker sections of the society. 77% of the students are belonging to OBC. 77 % of the students are women.

About RUSA Project

RUSA 2.0 project consist of two major parts like construction and renovation. In construction part we are constructing an audio visual theater. An audio visual theater is of utmost importance in any academic institution where state-of-the-art programmes are to be conducted which ultimately contributes to the overall development of students. The AV at Sir Syed College, Taliparamba is the core theater complex. There are students from the disciplines of Functional English and Journalism, they will be benefiting in their studies. The overall objective is to develop AV as a cultural centre and mini theater providing exposure to students in latest cultural programmes. .
