TKM College Of Engineering, Kollam

TKM College of Engineering, situated in the cashew hub of Kerala, City of Kollam; is the first Government- aided engineering college in Kerala. It is ideally located, in Karikode, on the Kollam- Chenkotta road, about 5 kilometres from the heart of the city. The campus, a distinctive landmark that cuts above the rest is built in the aesthetic Indo Saracenic architectural style with Mughal influence. The college is the first and foremost institution for technical education, run by the TKM College Trust, headed by Janab Shahal Hassan Musaliar. At its start, the college began its stride with the three basic branches of engineering – Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Today it is a renowned technical institution in India, offering undergraduate programs in eight branches of engineering and architecture, ten postgraduate programs of different specializations in engineering and an MCA program. The affiliation was with the University of Kerala till 2015 and from 2015 onwards it is affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (APJAKTU). It is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. UGC has granted Autonomous status to this Institution from 2022 onwards also. The college carries NBA accreditation to all B.Tech programs and two M.Tech programs, out of which the UG programmes in Civil and Mechanical engineering won the coveted six years accreditation.

NAAC has accredited the college with A grade and in NIRF, the college has been included in the band of 201-250 in the year 2019. The college has remained amenable to the requisites of modern technical education by establishing collaborations with industry leaders and distinguished national and foreign institutions including the University of Leeds, University of Kookmin, University of Twente, University of Wisconsin Parkside and Indian Institute of Science among others.

CONSTRUCTION

Construction component of the RUSA Project in the college, comprises of the construction of Laboratory for the Centralized high computing facility for research and the Interdisciplinary research facility.

Centralized High-end Computing Facility

Most of the current research works on data mining, Machine learning, signal processing, multi spectral analysis, Fluid mechanics, Structural dynamics, need development of large models that require huge memory and computing power. Software and storage requirements for multi-disciplinary research can only be served through high end server with high reliability, proper file and network security, centralized data resources and centralized back up.

Interdisciplinary research facility

This is a centre of Rheological studies to promote interdisciplinary research among major disciplines of Engineering. Rheometer is an instrument used for characterization of viscos elastic materials. It finds extensive applications in research areas of Civil, Mechanical, Chemical and Electrical and Electronics Engineering Departments of the College.

Renovation

It consists of the Renovation of the Office of the Controller of Examinations of the college with various facilities for Examinations and Centralized valuations, Modification of the Drawing hall in the Mechanical Engineering block and construction of a Retaining wall near the campus ground.
