University of Kerala, established in 1937 as the University of Travancore, is one among the first Universities in modern India. It is one among the elite set of Universities of present day India graded at A++ by the UGC NAAC and at 40 among Universities by the NIRF. The objectives of the University are to promote research in Sciences, Humanities and other branches of learning, to impart education among all classes of people for conserving the cultural heritage and to carry extension activities beneficial for the society. The University of Kerala is a treasure house of antiquity, preserver of knowledge and a stepping stone to modernity. It stands tall as a center of excellence in higher education with 45+ teaching and research departments and 45+ autonomous research centers; which are divided as 16+ faculties and are grouped into 11+ schools. The resident scholars are provided with residential, healthcare, entertainment and entrepreneurial facilities for better academic relations. The facilities form an unmatched giant repertoire of resources that have been set up in accordance with global standards open to all the scholars at all times. The University provides 100% research scholarships, student support services, participative democratic governance which is transparent and ethical for making higher education effective and affordable. The University is identified by the UGC as one of the 26 institutions selected for the promotion of India Studies by foreign students. University of Kerala is affiliated with 188 colleges, 34 UIT Centres (University Institute of Technology), 7 UIMs (University Institute of Management), 10 KUCTE (Kerala University Colleges of Teacher Education) and UCE (University College of Engineering) The University has two campuses, an administrative campus at Palayam and an academic campus at Kariavattom along with a host of associate campuses at various parts of the city. The University is a total Green Campus where environmental friendly practices and education combine to promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices to shape a better tomorrow. A scholar friendly policy is maintained by the University which ensures the wholesome development of all the scholars of the campus and the affiliated colleges.
