University of Kerala, established in 1937 as the University of Travancore, is one among the first Universities in modern India. It is one among the elite set of Universities of present day India graded at A++ by the UGC NAAC and at 40 among Universities by the NIRF. The objectives of the University are to promote research in Sciences, Humanities and other branches of learning, to impart education among all classes of people for conserving the cultural heritage and to carry extension activities beneficial for the society. University of Kerala is affiliated with 188 colleges, 34 UIT Centres (University Institute of Technology), 7 UIMs (University Institute of Management), 10 KUCTE (Kerala University Colleges of Teacher Education) and UCE (University College of Engineering) The University has two campuses, an administrative campus at Palayam and an academic campus at Kariavattom along with a host of associate campuses at various parts of the city.
