Government Victoria College, Palakkad, started in the year 1866 as a Rate School, was raised to the rank of a Second Grade College and was affiliated to the University of Madras. The college, at present is affiliated to the University of Calicut with 11 Postgraduate Courses and 16 Under Graduate Courses in Arts & Science subjects and a recognized Research center offering Phd in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, English, Commerce and Economics. Victoria College has been consistently presenting outstanding performance in academics with top positions in Calicut university examinations, and co -curricular areas such as sports, literary competitions and performing arts. College is recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Government of Kerala.

Govt.Victoria College is currently accredited with A grade in the fourth cycle of accreditation by NAAC and ranked 85 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Spread in 25 acres of land, Govt Victoria college campus has academic and administrative buildings, college hostels, playground area, seminar halls, library building and staff residences. The College has hostel facilities with a capacity of 105 beds for mens hostel and 150 beds for ladies hostel. A general Library and annexes at various departments with rare books housing more than hundred thousand reading resources with digitized transactions, being automated by a free software. A reading room with a capacity of 140 seats is also available at the Library.
